Personal Interests

I have a deep-rooted enthusiasm for all things involving the creative use of technology and enjoy being around other like-minded people who have a passion for what they do.

I'm a very "techie" person and like to stay abreast of movements in industry, spending much of my spare time researching emerging technologies and monitoring trends. I am also very active within my "geeky" peer group and enjoy technology discussion forums and online multiplayer gaming.

Besides this I have a great deal of interest in the world of film & video / music, so enjoy visiting the cinema and attending events.

Professional Experience

Most recently, I have been working with Downend School, making a 10 minute promotional video for their Post 16 Prospectus Pack. During the course of the project, I was responsible for arranging and directing location shoots, capturing and editing the video, animating motion graphics, encoding the video for distribution on CD and authoring the CD's interactive presentation which houses the video. I will upload a flash version of the video (which was filmed with a Sony HDV camera) to this site soon.

My previous role within the Authoring & Creative Services' Digital Studios for a major European optical disc manufacturer was extremely varied. Working along side the Senior Creative Developer, I was involved with a variety of projects at various stages involving CD, DVD, Web and USB technologies. My primary responsibility in the department was the design, development and strict testing of CD-ROM applications, which in many cases are also used as additional data content for DVD-Video discs and other media. Other day-to-day duties included working on internal documents, writing design/process specifications for new projects, reverse-engineering clients' obsolete discs to highlight areas of improvement, and acting as a technical consultant for all of the services offered by the department to clients and internal staff.

My primary development tool of choice when authoring for desktop/cross-platform portable media is Adobe Director, due to it's expandability and compatibility with a wide range of source media types. I am also proficient in using most of the typical multimedia tools such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Acrobat Pro, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore. I am often required to use these tools cross-platform (Windows and OS X) and also have exposure to the Apple Final Cut Studio suite of tools.

Professional digital video production processes are followed within the department and I am required to be very knowledgeable in this area. This has given me an understanding of the various video formats and codecs available to CD and DVD authors, and the workflows that should be followed in a professional working environment, from receipt of source assets to delivery on disc. Testing is another controlled process under my current employer and I am required to very thoroughly quality check and sign off any in-house authoring work which leaves the department. The stringent QC process includes testing Accessibility, User Operations, Cross Platform Compatibility, Disc Structure, Video/Audio Quality and identifying any potential security issues.
